What is Cross Trade?

Cross trade is considered when the location of your factory and requested delivery location is in different countries. However your company is located in Singapore. The shipment is to be controlled and co-ordinated in Singapore. Is it possible to arrange this?

What is Cross Trade?

Cross Trade is the movement of any shipment between an origin and destination country. The shipment will not enter the country where the shipper’s company is registered.

It is possible to arrange the shipment and control the logistical operations in Singapore. With the technological advancement and the popularity of using electronic mails, it is relatively easier to co-ordinate such shipments. It is possible even with the time difference in various parts of the world.

Through our vast network of trusted partners, we are able to offer individual solutions that give the customer full control over their logistics operations outside of Singapore’s borders.

Cross Trade can be arranged by air, sea or land transport depending on where the nearest exit port to the factory is and where the nearest entry port to the delivery point is. It also depends on the time limit that the customer has for the said delivery of the shipment. Cross border transactions are a substantial part of our operational activities, we have the experience and global network to deliver. AD&K have arranged many cross trade operations by containerised sea freight services, air freight services as well as multi-modal transport services.

We are able to give advice on the optimum logistics solutions available. AD&K will take into account transit times, schedule reliability and flexibility as well as overall cost. In addition to managing and processing the necessary documentation and ensuring compliance of all regulations at both the point of origin and final destination, we can also act as your local representative and liaise with the supplier on your behalf.

Are there any limitations?

With any mode of logistical solution, there is a limitation. For cross trade shipments, the bill of lading (sea shipments) or airway bill (air shipments) will have to state the actual port of loading and actual port of discharge. With this, your actual customer at the ultimate location will know where the actual origin of the shipment is from.

This is not an issue if the ultimate customer has knowledge of where the actual origin of the shipment is. However in certain countries, there are restrictions or limitations on goods originated from certain countries. In such situations, cross trade might not be feasible. If cross trade is insisted, there might be issues for the ultimate consignee with the customs at the port of discharge. For such shipments, transshipment or trans-loading is recommended.
